Want more Aero

This big-ass wheel is a 15-yr old prototype that Hed is putting back into the wind tunnel for downhillers that want Aero. We want it for our cross bikes.

A rainbow of compression

Compression garments are the latest thing in post exercise recovery- proponents say the restriction of the muscles creates better healing and building.

Now you can wrap a bundle of nerves and muscle tissue with ballerinni-like grace though a range of colored leg wear.

Camelbak VeloBak - Hydration a Roadie Might Actually Use

While they're staples in the mountain-bike community, most roadies eschew hydration systems in favor of the age-old water bottle. The un-areo nature of most packs makes most cyclists feel encumbered. Camelbak knows this is the case and has created a few products that might be more to the liking of the road-wheeled set.

The VeloBak is a very aerodynamic hydration system tucked cleverly inside a jersey. There's barely a bump on the back and it provides 72 ounces of your favorite beverage. It comes in men's and women's sizes and we checked them out at the Camelbak booth—they look pretty great. We're going to test these out and see if the bladder is heavy during a ride or vanishes as part of the jersey.

Troy Lee Tats up a Bike

Some nice custom crank and downtube designs from Troy Lee. Usually I'd think that this was over-the-top but I really got stopped in my tracks as I walked by the booth.

New bike company Boo

Boo launched at interbike, focusing on building bamboo-based frames with carbon lugs for both road and cross racing. The bikes are nice and similar to Calfee's line. I spoke with the founder of Boo who mentioned the Bamboo is harvested sustainably in Vietnam by a Boo employee, who then oversees the hand building of frames.

A new tire for the Pacific Northwest

Schwalbe makes some great tires, especially the Ultremo road tire. At interbike they were showing the new "Ultremo Aqua" for winter training in the rain. That sounds like a perfect tire for Portland and Seattle riders and these just might replace the Vittoria Pave tires I run in the winter to prevent flats, get a little extra traction, and get some more comfort.

Momentum Magazine's Bike Fashion Show

Momentum Magazine mostly focuses on commuting and a car-free lifestyle and for the second year in a row, they threw a fashion show at Interbike. Most of the clothing designs were interesting and functional, but this outfit looked amazing AND looked like it was easy to bike in. The rest of my photos from the fashion show are here.

Cavendish's bike is more beautiful in person

Remember that little bike race Le Tour, where über-sprinter Mark Cavendish trotted out a bike with a headtube paint job modeled on a WWII-era bomber? Well it's prettier in person. Much prettier.  _DSX4020.jpg(Click for full-size view.)

It also has details on the inside of the fork, it's designed to look like part of the interior of a airplane. _DSX4026.jpg

Puma Bikes?

We thought that the Puma booth at Interbike would have been filled with new cycling shoes. Boy, were we wrong. Puma has instead come out with a line of bikes that are really other people's bikes, painted other-worldly colors. I'm not exactly sure what to make of this new colorway (possibly the most overused phrase at the show, btw.) but it's, uh, different. _DSX4043.jpg

Take that guys - Luna Chix bring Booth Bobs

In a bit of reverse-stereotypicality, the folks from Luna turned the tables and brought a collection of what I'm hereby naming Booth Bobs and paraded them around the floor. Pointing out the oddness of the oft-encountered booth babes, these scantily clad fellas looked as out of place as the highly-coiffed babes do. Take that sexism!

Brooks Dealers of Excellence awards

Brooks awarded dealers who offered the best retail presentation of their famed leather saddles. 3rd level winners like my shop, Elliott Bay Bicycles, won the handsome plaque... Which oh so HEAVY. I got to fly with this to Taiwan before I go home to Seattle.

Giro Prolight helmet

The Giro Prolight helmet is ridiculously light. Seriously, you'd be shocked to pick one up. Unfortunately, Giro helmets don't fit me. And they make me look stupid.

Jeremy Sycip at the show

Even if small builders aren't displaying at Interbike, they still go to see what's new. Jeremy will be in Portland for the Oregon Manifest show next week.

Steve Hed, closet vintage bike buff

Who knew that a guy so completely on the leading edge of cycling aerodynamics would have a sweet tooth for vintage steel? [Ed- I could have guessed that.]
